What size RV fresh water hose do I need?

Standard RV fresh water hoses use a 5/8" inner diameter with 3/4" GHT (garden hose thread) fittings, which matches the inlet on virtually every travel trailer, fifth wheel, and motorhome. Lengths of 25 ft and 50 ft cover most full-hookup sites; carry both if you boondock or stay at older parks with distant spigots. Always confirm the hose is labeled drinking water safe (lead-free, BPA-free) before connecting it to your potable system.

Do I need a water pressure regulator with my RV hose?

Yes. Municipal water pressure at campgrounds can spike well above 100 PSI, and most RV plumbing systems are rated for 40-60 PSI. An inline pressure regulator threads onto the spigot before your hose and protects fittings, pump check valves, and PEX lines from blowouts. Pair it with a quality drinking water hose and an inline sediment filter for the cleanest, safest supply to your tank.

What hoses and accessories do I need to winterize my RV?

Winterizing requires a short pump converter hose (or siphon kit) to draw RV antifreeze directly into the fresh water system, plus a blowout plug if you prefer to clear lines with compressed air. You will also want a dedicated antifreeze hose kept separate from your drinking water hose. See our full RV Winterizing Kits collection for pump converters, blowout adapters, and non-toxic antifreeze.

Can I use a regular garden hose for my RV fresh water connection?

No. Standard garden hoses are not certified for potable water and can leach lead, BPA, and plasticizers into your fresh tank, especially when warmed in the sun. Use a hose specifically labeled for drinking water with NSF or FDA-grade lining. If you are upgrading your water heater at the same time, our 10 Gallon RV Water Heater collection covers Suburban and Atwood replacements.

What's the difference between a fresh water hose and a black tank flush hose?

They serve opposite ends of the plumbing system and should never be swapped. Fresh water hoses are white or blue, NSF-certified for potable water, and connect to the city water inlet. Black tank flush hoses are typically dark colored, not drinking water rated, and connect only to the dedicated black tank rinse port. Keep them stored separately to avoid cross-contamination.

Does United RV Parts ship water hoses and plumbing fittings free?

Yes. Orders over $100 ship free within the contiguous US. Most fresh water hoses, brass fittings, Y-valves, and winterization accessories ship via ground carrier within 1-2 business days.
