Water is one of the biggest threats to any RV. A small gap around a roof vent, window frame, or seam might seem minor, but left unsealed it can allow moisture to work its way into the walls and cause serious damage over time. Staying on top of sealant maintenance is one of the most effective ways to protect your RV's structure and interior.

Our selection of RV sealants covers a range of applications, including roof sealants, lap sealants, self-leveling compounds, and flexible caulks suited to different surfaces and materials. Not all sealants are compatible with every RV surface, so check your RV's roof material and manufacturer recommendations before selecting a product.

Comprender los detalles del cuidado del techo de su vehículo recreativo es fundamental para preservar su hogar sobre ruedas y garantizar viajes sin preocupaciones.

What is the best sealant for an RV roof?

The right RV roof sealant depends on your roof membrane. Self-leveling lap sealants like Dicor 501LSW are formulated for horizontal seams around vents, skylights, and AC shrouds on EPDM and TPO roofs. Non-sag sealants are used on vertical surfaces and sidewall seams. For full-roof recoats, a roll-on liquid roof coating is the better option. Always confirm compatibility with your roof material before applying, since silicone-based products will not bond to a roof previously coated with non-silicone sealant.

Can I use regular silicone caulk on my RV?

Standard household silicone is not recommended for RV roof seams. RV-grade silicone and lap sealants are formulated for UV exposure, thermal expansion, and adhesion to EPDM, TPO, fiberglass, and aluminum substrates. Using the wrong product leads to cracking, peeling, and leaks within a season. Stick with products labeled for RV roof or marine use, and match the sealant chemistry (silicone, urethane, or self-leveling lap) to the repair area.

Does RV roof caulk come in black?

Yes. While white is the most common color for matching standard RV roof membranes, black sealants are available for darker trim, slide-out gaskets, and visible exterior seams where white would stand out. Check the product description for color before ordering, and pair the sealant with related repair supplies from our Icon Premium Skylights collection if you are resealing around a skylight replacement.

How often should RV roof sealant be inspected and replaced?

Inspect roof seams, vent flanges, and skylight perimeters at least twice a year, and after any long trip or hailstorm. Surface cracks, lifting edges, or chalking mean the sealant has reached the end of its service life. Most lap sealants last 5 to 10 years depending on climate and UV exposure. If you are also prepping for cold weather, our RV Winterizing Kits cover the plumbing side of off-season storage.

What is the difference between roll-on roof coatings and tube sealants?

Tube sealants (cartridge or squeeze tube) are used for spot repairs around penetrations, seams, and screw heads. Roll-on roof coatings are liquid systems applied across the entire roof surface to restore a worn membrane and add a fresh UV barrier. Many full restorations use both: tube sealant to address active leaks first, then a roll-on coating over the cured repairs.

Do you carry sealants compatible with skylight and vent replacements?

Yes. This collection includes sealants suited for skylight flanges, roof vent installations, and AC shroud seams. If you are replacing the skylight or vent itself, pair the sealant with parts from our Ventline Vent essential accessories collection. Confirm your vent or skylight model number before ordering so the sealant matches the flange material.
