Dometic is one of the most widely used water heater brands in the RV industry, and their lineup includes units originally manufactured under the Atwood name before Dometic acquired the brand. If your RV has an Atwood water heater, Dometic is now the correct source for a direct replacement.

Our selection covers gas-only, gas and electric, and DSI models in 6 and 10-gallon tank sizes, built to fit the same openings as the units they replace. Whether you are upgrading a worn-out unit or doing a like-for-like swap, confirm your current model number and tank size before ordering to make sure you get the right fit.

Is an Atwood water heater the same as a Dometic water heater?

Yes. Dometic acquired Atwood's RV appliance line, and Atwood-design water heaters are now sold under the Dometic name. If your RV has an older Atwood water heater, a current Dometic unit of the same capacity and ignition type is generally the replacement path. Atwood and Dometic tank-style heaters use an aluminum tank, so they do not use the anode rod that Suburban steel-tank models require. Most Atwood units are 6-gallon, and our Dometic 6 gallon RV water heaters cover that size. Before ordering, read the model number off the data plate on your existing Atwood unit (for example, GC6AA-10E) so you can match capacity, gas or gas/electric operation, and ignition type.

Does Dometic make a tankless RV water heater?

Dometic is best known in the RV market for tank-style water heaters, which store a fixed volume of water, usually 6 or 10 gallons. A tankless (on-demand) heater heats water as it flows. It does not run out during a long shower, but it needs adequate water pressure and LP supply to hold a steady temperature. Each listing in this collection names the heater type and capacity in the title, so check that before ordering. A tankless unit usually needs a different exterior wall cutout and may need plumbing changes, so it is not always a direct swap for an existing tank heater.

How do I choose the right replacement Dometic RV hot water heater?

Match four things on your current unit. First is tank capacity in gallons. Second is fuel: LP gas only, or gas/electric combination. Third is ignition: pilot or direct spark ignition (DSI). Fourth is the exterior wall cutout size. Capacity drives most other choices. 6-gallon units fit most travel trailers and smaller motorhomes. Larger rigs and full-timers often step up to the 10 gallon RV water heaters for more hot water between recovery cycles. A larger tank needs a larger cutout. Text or call 817-984-1852 with the model number of your existing unit and we will confirm the correct fit before you order.

Can I replace only the exterior door on my Dometic water heater?

Yes. If the heater itself works and only the exterior door is cracked, faded, or missing its latch, you can replace the door alone. Doors are sized to the heater's wall opening and are not interchangeable across capacities, so a 6-gallon door will not fit a 10-gallon opening. For 6-gallon units, see our replacement doors for Dometic 6 gallon water heaters. Measure your existing door's width and height before ordering and check whether you need a vented or solid style.
