What does an RV stabilizer do, and can it level my camper?

An RV stabilizer reduces the rocking and bounce you feel when people walk around inside a parked trailer or motorhome. It is not designed to lift or level the RV. Using stabilizer jacks to raise a low corner can bend the jack or stress the frame. Level the RV first with blocks under the tires, chock the wheels, and then extend the stabilizers until they are snug against the ground.

Do I need RV stabilizer blocks or pads under my jacks?

On gravel, grass, or soft dirt, a jack foot can sink and lose contact, which brings the movement back. RV stabilizer blocks and pads spread the load over a wider footprint and add height, so the jack extends less and holds more firmly. On a level concrete pad they are optional. Check that the pad's footprint fits the foot of your stabilizer jack before ordering.

Which RV stabilizer jacks fit my travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome?

Scissor jacks are the most common RV stabilizer jacks on travel trailers and fifth wheels. They bolt or weld to the frame at each corner and extend with a hand crank or a drill adapter. Before ordering, measure the distance from your frame to the ground and compare it to the jack's retracted and extended heights. Then confirm the load rating and mounting pattern. Motorhomes with hydraulic leveling systems generally use stabilizers as a supplement, not a replacement. For fitment help, text or call 817-984-1852 with your RV's make and model.

How many RV leveling blocks do I need?

The number of RV leveling blocks depends on how far out of level your sites usually are. Place a bubble level on the floor side to side and front to back, then stack blocks under the tires on the low side until the bubble centers. Interlocking systems such as Lynx RV leveling blocks stack in a pyramid and come in multi-packs, so one or two packs covers most campsites. Do not stack higher than the manufacturer's stated maximum.

When should I use RV wheel chocks, and which style do I need?

Set RV wheel chocks on both sides of a tire before you unhitch, and leave them in place for the entire stay. Standard wedge chocks stop the trailer from rolling. X-style chocks fit between tandem tires and also limit fore-and-aft movement, but they need enough gap between your tires to fit. Measure that gap before ordering. A typical setup order is level, chock, unhitch, lower stabilizers, then connect shore power through one of our Southwire Surge Guard RV surge protectors.
