What is included in the Skylight Essentials collection?

This collection covers the parts most RV owners need when replacing or maintaining a roof skylight: the skylight dome itself, sealants and roof repair products for the perimeter, and related maintenance items. For dome replacements by size and shape, also see our Specialty Recreation Skylights and Inside Square Skylights collections.

How do I measure my RV skylight for a replacement dome?

Measure the inside dimensions of the roof cutout (length and width), then measure the outside flange of the existing dome. RV skylights are typically sized by the roof opening, with common sizes including 14" x 22", 16" x 24", and 22" x 30". Confirm both measurements before ordering, since dome flanges overlap the cutout by roughly 1 inch on each side.

What sealant should I use around an RV skylight?

Self-leveling lap sealant (such as Dicor) is the standard for horizontal roof surfaces around a skylight flange. Apply it over the screw heads and along the flange edge after setting the dome in butyl tape. For related roof maintenance and vent sealing supplies, see Hengs Vent Essential Accessories.

Can I install an RV skylight myself?

Yes. Most RV skylight replacements are a straightforward DIY job: remove the old sealant and screws, lift the cracked dome, clean the roof surface, lay fresh butyl tape, set the new dome, drive the screws, and finish with self-leveling lap sealant. Plan for a dry day and allow the sealant to cure before exposing the roof to rain. If you need help confirming the right dome size, text or call our team at 817-984-1852.
