What does an RV stove or range vent do?

An RV stove vent (also called a range vent) pulls cooking smoke, grease, and moisture out of the cabin through a sidewall exhaust port. The vent assembly includes an exterior cover, a damper to block backdraft, and a screen to keep insects out. If your range hood fan runs but airflow feels weak, the exterior vent cap is usually the part that needs replacement.

How do I know which RV oven or range vent cover fits my rig?

Measure the cutout opening on the exterior sidewall, then check the throat diameter of your range hood duct (commonly 4 inch or 5 inch on RV applications). Match those dimensions to the vent cover spec before ordering. If your original cover has a brand stamp from Ventline, Heng's, or JR Products, search by that part number for an exact replacement. Pair the new vent with fresh butyl tape and self-leveling lap sealant for a watertight install.

What is an RV sink vent and when does it need replacing?

An RV sink vent is a one-way air admittance valve (often called an AAV or cheater vent) installed under the galley or bath sink. It lets air into the drain line so water flows freely without venting sewer gas back into the cabin. Replace it when you notice slow drains, gurgling, or a sulfur smell at the sink. Most RV AAVs use a 1-1/2 inch threaded connection and swap in under five minutes.

Do refrigerator roof vents and stove vents use the same parts?

No. RV refrigerator roof vents are larger assemblies designed to exhaust heat from the absorption cooling unit and use a dedicated base, lid, and screen sized to the fridge model. Stove and range vents are smaller sidewall units rated for cooking exhaust. For fridge-specific lids and screens, see the Norcold 7 cubic foot refrigerator essentials collection, and for roof-mounted ceiling vent accessories check Ventline vent essential accessories. Confirm your model number before ordering so you get the correct fit.

What sealant should I use when installing a new stove vent cover?

Use butyl tape behind the vent flange to create the primary moisture barrier, then run a bead of self-leveling lap sealant (for roof installs) or non-sag sealant like Dicor or Sikaflex 221 around the perimeter of sidewall vents. Avoid silicone, it does not bond reliably to RV sidewall materials and makes future repairs harder. While you have the sealant out, also inspect nearby Icon premium skylights and other roof penetrations for cracking or pulled caulk.
