A heat pump air conditioner cools your RV in summer and provides electric heating during cooler conditions, making it a practical two-in-one solution for shoulder season camping when running the propane furnace continuously is less than ideal.

GE Appliances offers heat pump units across their Deluxe, Deluxe Plus, and high efficiency series, covering 13,500 BTU and 15,000 BTU outputs to suit different RV sizes and cooling needs. A low profile option is also available for RVs where rooftop clearance is a consideration. Units are available in black and white finishes and include straightforward controls and quiet operation.

What is a GE heat pump RV air conditioner and how does it differ from a standard AC?

A GE heat pump RV air conditioner cools in summer and reverses the refrigerant cycle to provide supplemental heat in shoulder seasons, typically down to outside temperatures around 40°F. Below that range the heat pump loses efficiency and most owners switch to their furnace or an electric space heater. Compared to a cooling-only rooftop unit, the heat pump model gives you a second heat source that runs on shore power instead of LP gas, which is useful for campground stays where you want to conserve propane.

How do I know if a GE rooftop unit will fit my RV?

GE rooftop air conditioners are built to the standard 14" x 14" RV roof opening, which matches the Dometic and Coleman footprint, so most direct replacements drop in without cutting. Confirm three things before ordering: the existing roof opening dimensions, whether your system is ducted or non-ducted, and the amp draw your breaker and converter can support. If you are running a non-ducted setup, pair the rooftop with a matching interior assembly such as the FreshJet 5 heat pump ceiling assembly for non-ducted installations.

Do I need a soft start kit with a GE heat pump air conditioner?

A soft start is not required for shore power use, but it is strongly recommended if you plan to run the unit on a 30-amp pedestal alongside other loads, or off a generator or inverter. Reducing inrush current by roughly 70% lets a 2,000–3,000 watt inverter generator start the compressor without tripping. If your rig already runs a Coleman-Mach rooftop, the Coleman RV air conditioner soft start kits show the same wiring logic that applies to most 13,500 and 15,000 BTU rooftop units.

What electrical setup do I need to run a GE rooftop heat pump?

Most 13,500 to 15,000 BTU GE heat pump units pull 13–16 amps in cooling mode and slightly less in heat pump mode, so a 30-amp shore connection handles one unit comfortably with the converter, water heater, and small appliances. For 50-amp coaches running dual rooftops, each AC sits on its own leg. If you camp at parks with mixed pedestals, keep the right adapters on board, our RV plug adapters collection covers the 30-amp to 50-amp and 15-amp to 30-amp combinations most owners need.

How low of an outdoor temperature can the heat pump function effectively?

GE heat pump rooftops produce useful heat down to about 40°F outside ambient. Below that the coil cannot pull enough heat from the outdoor air, the unit will cycle less efficiently, and most controllers lock out heat pump mode. For winter or sub-freezing camping, plan to use your LP furnace as the primary heat source and treat the heat pump as a shoulder-season tool for spring and fall mornings.

Does United RV Parts ship rooftop air conditioners, and what does freight cost?

Yes. Rooftop air conditioner shipments move by truck freight because of the size and weight of the carton, typically 70–90 lbs with the shroud. Freight rates are quoted at checkout and the unit ships to a business address or terminal pickup; residential delivery with liftgate is available for an added fee.
