Are these carbon monoxide detectors UL-listed for RV use?

Yes. The CO alarms in this collection are UL-listed and built specifically for 12V DC RV, motorhome, and travel trailer applications. RV-rated detectors are engineered to handle the vibration, temperature swings, and humidity that residential units are not designed for, which is why a household plug-in alarm should never be used as a substitute. Pair your CO alarm with the rest of your 12V safety wiring through our RV electronics collection.

Where should I mount a carbon monoxide detector in my RV?

Mount the alarm on an interior wall roughly 5 feet off the floor, near the sleeping area but away from the range, refrigerator vent, and exterior doors. Carbon monoxide mixes evenly with cabin air, so ceiling placement directly above an LP appliance is not required and can cause nuisance alarms. Confirm the mounting hole pattern of your replacement matches the existing cutout before ordering.

How often should I replace the carbon monoxide alarm in my motorhome?

Replace your RV CO alarm every 5 to 7 years, even if it still chirps and tests. The electrochemical sensor degrades over time, and most units stamp an expiration or manufacture date on the back housing. If yours is past date or has been triggered by a real CO event, install a new one immediately and check your LP system at the same time.

Do these detectors also sense LP gas, or do I need a separate alarm?

This collection includes both CO-only alarms and combination CO/LP units. If your rig currently has a single combo detector near the floor, you will want a combination model so the propane sensor stays low where LP gas settles. Check the model number on your existing alarm against the listings, and call or text 817-984-1852 if you need help confirming the right replacement.
