Do RV air conditioners have filters?

Yes. Every rooftop RV air conditioner, ducted or non-ducted, uses a filter to keep dust, pollen, and debris out of the evaporator coil and blower wheel. On non-ducted units the filter sits behind the return air grille on the ceiling assembly. On ducted systems the filter is housed at the return air grille mounted in the ceiling. Pulling and inspecting yours every 30 days of use is the simplest way to protect cooling performance. If your ceiling assembly itself is damaged, see our Dometic non-ducted ceiling assemblies.

How often should I replace my RV A/C filter?

For most RV owners, replace the filter every 60 to 90 days of active use, and inspect it monthly. Full-timers, owners with pets, and rigs parked in dusty or pollen-heavy areas should swap filters more often. A clogged filter forces the blower to work harder, drops cooling output, and can ice the evaporator coil. If you run heat strips or a heat pump through your A/C, plan on a filter change at the start of each cooling season as well.

What is the difference between ducted and non-ducted RV A/C filters?

Ducted RV air conditioners pull return air through a ceiling grille located away from the A/C unit itself, so the filter lives in that grille and is usually a flat rectangular pad cut to fit. Non-ducted units pull air directly through the ceiling assembly below the rooftop unit, so the filter is a smaller pre-cut pad that snaps into the return grille on the assembly. Confirm whether your rig is ducted or non-ducted before ordering, and match the filter to the brand and model. For ducted Coleman systems, replacement assemblies are listed under Coleman ducted ceiling assemblies.

Will these filters fit Atwood Air Command, Dometic, Coleman, and Furrion units?

This collection covers replacement filters and filter pads for the major rooftop A/C brands sold into the RV market, including Dometic, Coleman-Mach, Atwood Air Command, Advent, and Furrion. Filters are sized to specific ceiling assemblies and return grilles, so check your A/C model number (stamped on the rooftop shroud or interior assembly) against the product listing before ordering. If you are also replacing the return grille or full assembly, the Furrion non-ducted ceiling assembly page lists compatible parts. Need help confirming fitment? Text or call 817-984-1852.

What is RV A/C filter material made of, and can I cut my own?

Most RV air conditioner filters are open-cell polyurethane foam or non-woven polyester media, typically 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. The foam is washable, the polyester pads are usually replace-only. Bulk filter material is sold by the sheet so you can cut a custom size for older or oversized return grilles, just match the original thickness and trim with sharp scissors or a utility knife. Avoid household furnace filters, they restrict airflow too much for the low-static blowers used in RV rooftop units.

Does United RV Parts offer free shipping on A/C filters?

Yes. Orders over $100 ship free within the contiguous U.S. Most filters and filter pads ship via standard ground and arrive within 3 to 7 business days. If you are ordering filters alongside a full ceiling assembly or a heavier appliance, freight terms may apply to the larger item, those are noted on the individual product page.
