When your RV furnace stops working reliably, it can cut a trip short fast, especially during shoulder season camping when overnight temperatures drop significantly. Dometic is a well-established name in RV climate control, producing furnaces built to handle the demands of life on the road. Whether you are replacing a failed unit or upgrading an older furnace, Dometic offers dependable propane-powered heating in a range of BTU outputs to suit different RV sizes and layouts.

Check your current furnace model number, BTU rating, and duct configuration before ordering to make sure the replacement unit is the right fit for your RV. When in doubt, your furnace model plate is usually located on the exterior access panel.

What sizes of Dometic RV furnaces are available?

Dometic RV furnaces in this collection range from compact 16,000 BTU units suited to smaller trailers and truck campers up to 42,000 BTU models for larger fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes. Match the BTU output to your rig's cubic footage and ducting layout, and confirm the existing furnace's model number (Atwood Hydro Flame and older Dometic part numbers cross-reference directly) before ordering. If you also need ducted ceiling AC components, see our Coleman Ceiling Assembly for Ducted Installations collection.

Do Dometic RV furnaces run on propane or electric?

Every furnace in this collection is LP gas fired with 12V DC ignition and blower power. The propane burner produces the heat; the 12V system drives the DSI module, sail switch, and combustion fan. Plan on roughly 7 to 11 amps of 12V draw during operation, which matters if you boondock. For 120V shore power management around the rig, browse our RV Electronics collection.

Will a new Dometic furnace replace my older Atwood or Hydro Flame unit?

In most cases, yes. Dometic acquired Atwood, and current Dometic furnaces retain the Hydro Flame footprint, duct collar locations, and gas inlet positions used on AFMD, AFSD, and 8500-series models. Measure the cabinet opening, note the duct outlet count, and verify the part number on your existing furnace tag before ordering. Text or call 817-984-1852 if you need help confirming the crosswalk.

What other heating-season parts should I shop with a furnace?

If you are servicing the furnace ahead of cold weather, it is a good time to address related systems. Our RV Winterizing Kits collection covers antifreeze and blowout fittings for the plumbing side, and the 10 Gallon RV Water Heater collection has replacement units and parts if your water heater is showing its age alongside the furnace.

How do I know if my furnace needs replacement or just a part?

Most Dometic furnace failures trace back to a single component: the DSI ignition module, sail switch, limit switch, gas valve, or blower motor. A furnace that clicks but will not light is usually a gas valve or igniter issue; one that runs briefly and shuts down is typically a sail switch or limit switch. Full furnace replacement makes sense when the heat exchanger has cracked or the combustion chamber shows burn-through. Have your model and serial number ready when diagnosing.
