Water quality varies significantly from one campground to the next. Sediment, chlorine, and other contaminants are common in campground water supplies, and without a filter in line, that water flows directly into your RV's plumbing system and out of your faucets. A water filter is a simple and affordable way to improve the taste and quality of your drinking water wherever you are parked.

Our selection of RV water filters includes inline filters, canister systems, and replacement filter cartridges to suit a range of setups and filtration needs. Whether you filter at the hose connection or at the point of use inside your RV, we carry options to cover both approaches. Replace your filter cartridge regularly to maintain effective filtration throughout the camping season.

What does an RV water filter actually remove?

Standard RV inline and canister filters reduce sediment, chlorine taste and odor, and common particulates down to around 5 microns, depending on the cartridge. Carbon block cartridges go further on chemical taste, while sediment-only cartridges are typically rated 20 to 50 microns and are used as a pre-filter when you are hooking up at a campground with cloudy city water. Check the micron rating and media type on each cartridge before ordering so it matches the water quality you actually deal with on the road.

How often should I replace the water filter cartridge in my RV?

Most RV water filter cartridges are rated for roughly 3 months of regular use or about 2,000 to 4,000 gallons, whichever comes first. Heavy sediment, well water, or full-time travel will shorten that interval. A drop in flow, a return of chlorine taste, or any discoloration at the faucet means the cartridge is loaded and needs to be swapped. If you are taking the rig out of service for the season, pull the cartridge before you run through our RV winterizing kits so antifreeze does not soak into the media.

What is the difference between an inline filter and a canister filter?

Inline filters thread onto the hose between the spigot and the city water inlet and are a single sealed unit you replace whole. Canister filters use a refillable housing with a replaceable cartridge inside, which lets you match the cartridge to local water conditions (sediment, carbon block, KDF) and usually delivers higher flow rates and longer service life. Canisters cost more up front but are less expensive per gallon over time, which is why most full-timers run them.

Will these filter housings fit my existing plumbing?

Most RV canister housings use standard 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch NPT inlet and outlet ports and accept 10 inch standard or big blue cartridges. Confirm the port size on your current housing and the cartridge length before ordering a replacement, since a big blue cartridge will not seat in a standard housing. Can I leave the water filter installed during winter storage?

No. Water trapped inside a filter housing or cartridge will freeze and crack the housing, and any antifreeze pushed through the system will saturate the carbon media and ruin it. Remove the cartridge, drain the housing, and store both dry. When you flush the lines with non-toxic RV antifreeze using one of our RV winterizing kits, bypass the filter housing entirely and install a fresh cartridge in spring.
