Which anode rod fits a Suburban RV water heater?

Suburban water heaters use a magnesium or aluminum/zinc anode rod with a 3/4" NPT thread, sized to fit the 6-gallon and 10-gallon steel tanks (SW6, SW6D, SW6DE, SW10, SW10D, SW10DE, and similar). Atwood water heaters do not use an anode rod, so confirm your tank is Suburban before ordering. If you need a full tank replacement instead, see our 10 gallon RV water heater collection.

How often should the anode rod be replaced?

Inspect the anode rod at least once per season, and replace it when more than 75% of the magnesium or aluminum has corroded away. Owners with hard water or full-time use should check every 3 to 6 months. Replacing the rod on schedule protects the glass-lined steel tank from corrosion and extends the heater's service life.

What else is included in this collection besides anode rods?

This collection covers the small parts that keep a Suburban water heater sealed, vented, and protected: bug screens for the exterior vent, door and access panel hardware, and roof or sidewall repair components for the heater opening. For winter shutdown, pair these with our RV winterizing kits to drain and bypass the tank properly.

How do I confirm my Suburban water heater model number?

The model and serial number are printed on a label inside the access door, usually on the side wall of the burner compartment. Look for an SW prefix followed by the gallon capacity and feature codes (D for DSI ignition, E for electric element). Confirm the model number before ordering replacement parts to make sure thread sizes and gasket dimensions match.
