What does the DEL ON/OFF switch do on a Suburban water heater?

The DEL switch controls the direct spark ignition (DSI) system on Suburban DEL-series water heaters. Flipping it on energizes the control board, which then opens the gas valve and fires the igniter. If your water heater will not light or shows no power at the board, a failed ON/OFF switch is one of the first parts to check before replacing the board itself.

How do I know if my Suburban water heater uses the DEL switch?

Check the model number plate inside the access door. Suburban model codes break down as SW (Suburban Water Heater), gallon size, and a suffix indicating ignition type. DEL indicates Direct Spark Ignition with an Electronic Lockout. If your model ends in D or DE instead, see our Suburban D and DE ON/OFF switches collection for the correct fit.

Is the DEL ON/OFF switch easy to replace?

Yes. Replacement takes about 15 minutes with a Phillips screwdriver. Disconnect shore power and the battery, remove the exterior access door, unplug the two-wire harness from the back of the switch, unscrew the switch from the door panel, and reverse the steps with the new part. Confirm your model number before ordering. If the access door itself is cracked or faded, check our Suburban water heater door options.

What ships with the DEL ON/OFF switch?

Each switch ships with the rocker switch, mounting hardware, and the pre-wired harness pigtail where applicable. Wire nuts and the access door are not included. Orders over $100 ship free. For help confirming compatibility against your Suburban model number, text or call our team at 817-984-1852.
