What does an RV toilet flush valve do?

The flush valve controls the flow of fresh water into the bowl when you step on the pedal or press the flush button. When it fails, you typically see a slow trickle, no water at the bowl rinse, or water that will not shut off. Most replacements in this collection cover Thetford, Dometic, and Sealand pedal-flush and electric models. Confirm your toilet model number before ordering so the valve body, ports, and mounting pattern match.

How do I know if I need a water valve kit or just the valve?

A standalone valve replaces the cartridge or solenoid only, which is the right call when the valve is leaking or sticking but the seals, springs, and fasteners around it are still in good shape. A full water valve kit includes the gaskets, O-rings, and hardware that wear out at the same time, and is the better choice on toilets more than five years old or whenever you notice weeping at the connection points. Both options are listed in this collection by toilet model.

What is a vacuum breaker and why does my RV toilet need one?

A vacuum breaker is an anti-siphon device that prevents waste water from being pulled back into your fresh water lines if system pressure drops. It is required by code on most RV toilets and is a common failure point, you will usually notice it as water spraying from the top of the toilet during a flush. Replacements are toilet-model specific. For related fresh water protection parts, see our RV winterizing kits when you are shutting the system down for the season.

Will these valves fit both Dometic and Thetford toilets?

No. Flush valves and vacuum breakers are model-specific between Thetford (Aqua-Magic V, Style II, Aria), Dometic (300, 310, 320, 510), and Sealand units. Each manufacturer uses different port spacing, mounting tabs, and connection types. Match the part to your toilet's model number, which is printed on a label inside the base or under the seat. If you are not sure, text or call 817-984-1852 with your model number and we will confirm the correct valve.

Can I install an RV toilet valve myself?

Yes, most flush valve and vacuum breaker swaps take 20 to 40 minutes with basic hand tools. Shut off the fresh water supply, relieve line pressure by flushing once, disconnect the supply line at the back of the toilet, then remove the retaining screws or clips holding the valve in place. Transfer any reusable hardware, seat the new gaskets dry (no sealant), and tighten in a cross pattern to avoid cracking the housing. Turn the water back on slowly and check for leaks at every joint before you call it done.

What other RV plumbing parts should I check while replacing the valve?

While the supply line is disconnected, inspect the braided hose for cracks or bulging, check the closet flange seal at the floor, and test the bowl seal by adding an inch of water and watching it overnight. If you are doing seasonal maintenance at the same time, our RV winterizing kits cover the antifreeze, blowout plugs, and bypass valves needed to protect the toilet and the rest of the fresh water system through freezing temperatures.
