What does an RV propane regulator do?

An RV propane regulator reduces high tank pressure down to the 11 inches of water column that your appliances need to run safely. Without a working regulator, your furnace, water heater, stove, and refrigerator will not get consistent LP gas flow. Most RVs use a two-stage automatic changeover regulator that switches between two tanks so you do not lose heat or hot water mid-trip.

How often should I replace my RV propane regulator and hose?

Industry guidance from most LP gas manufacturers calls for regulator replacement every 10 to 15 years, and pigtail hoses every 5 years or sooner if you see cracking, kinks, or soot at the appliance burners. If you notice yellow flames instead of blue, a sulfur smell, or appliances that will not stay lit, replace the regulator and hoses together. Check the date stamp on the regulator body to confirm age.

What size propane hose do I need for my camper?

Most RV pigtail hoses are 12, 15, or 24 inches long with a 1/4 inch inverted flare fitting on the regulator end and an ACME (Type 1/QCC1) connector on the tank end. Measure the distance between your tank valves and the regulator inlet before ordering, and match the connector type to your tank valves. For built-in ASME tanks on motorhomes, you will use a different fixed hose assembly rather than a pigtail.

Can I buy a complete RV propane regulator and hose kit here?

Yes. This collection includes 64 LP gas products covering standalone two-stage regulators, pigtail hoses sold individually, and complete changeover kits that ship with the regulator plus both pigtails ready to install. If you also need to button up the rest of your gas system for cold-weather travel, see our RV winterizing kits. For 12V controls and monitoring on the electrical side, see RV electronics.

Will a new regulator fix my appliances that will not stay lit?

Often, yes. A failing regulator is one of the most common causes of weak flames, furnace lockouts, and water heaters that cycle off. Before swapping, confirm both tank valves are fully open, check pigtails for blockage or damage, and verify your tank is not running on vapor withdrawal in extreme cold. If those check out and the symptom appears across multiple appliances, the regulator is the likely culprit. For 10 gallon tank heater fitment questions, our 10 gallon RV water heater collection lists models that pair with standard LP supply.

Does United RV Parts offer free shipping on propane regulators and hoses?

Yes. Orders over $100 ship free within the contiguous US. Most regulators and pigtail hoses in this collection ship the same or next business day. If you need help confirming the right fitting type or hose length for your rig, text or call 817-984-1852 before you order.
