Dometic acquired Atwood many years ago, so if your RV has an Atwood water heater, you're in the right place. The parts here cover both legacy Atwood units and current Dometic WH series models. These water heaters run on LP gas, 120V AC electric, or both, and most failures trace back to a small set of components rather than the whole unit needing replacement.

Common repairs include replacing the ignition control board, thermostat and ECO assembly, heating element, gas control valve, electrode assembly, or thermal cut-off. We also stock anode rods, drain plugs, wiring harnesses, pressure relief valves, insect screens, and access door hardware. OEM Dometic parts are available alongside quality aftermarket options from MC Enterprises and Dinosaur Electronics.

What Dometic RV water heater parts do you carry?

This collection covers the common failure points on Dometic and Atwood-branded water heaters: heating elements, thermostats, thermal cutoffs (ECO switches), control boards (circuit boards), gas valves, pressure relief (P&T) valves, drain plugs, burner tubes, access doors, and screens. Most parts cross-reference to the original Atwood numbers, since Dometic acquired Atwood in 2014 and many service parts retained the legacy part numbers. If you also need a full tank replacement, see our 10 gallon RV water heater collection.

How do I find the right replacement element for my Dometic 6 gallon water heater?

Check the model number on the data plate inside the access door. Atwood/Dometic 6 gallon units (GC6AA-10E, G6A-8E, GCH6A-10E and similar) use a 120V, 1400W screw-in element with a 1" NPT thread. 10 gallon models use the same element style but pair with a different thermostat assembly. Always confirm voltage and wattage stamped on the old element before ordering, and replace the gasket at the same time to avoid leaks.

Will Atwood water heater parts fit my Dometic unit?

In most cases, yes. After Dometic acquired Atwood, the water heater designs continued largely unchanged, so Atwood-numbered control boards, gas valves, thermostats, and elements remain the correct service parts for current Dometic units. The exception is cosmetic items like access doors, where color and trim changed. Match the part number on the component itself rather than just the brand badge on the tank.

How do I know if my water heater control board has failed?

Common signs of a failed Dometic/Atwood control board: the unit will not light on gas, the ECO/reset light stays on, the spark igniter clicks but never sustains flame, or the 120V element runs but the gas side is dead. Before replacing the board, verify the thermostat and thermal cutoff with a multimeter (both should read continuity at room temperature) and confirm 12V DC at the board input. If those check out, the board is the next part to replace.

Do these parts ship with free shipping?

Yes. Orders over $100 ship free within the contiguous US. Small items like thermostats, ECO switches, and drain plugs ship via standard ground; control boards and gas valves are packaged to protect the electronics. What other RV systems should I service at the same time?

If you are working on the water heater, it is a good time to flush the tank with a Camco anode-style cleaning wand, inspect the P&T valve, and check your bypass valves for winter storage. Owners doing a full fall service often pair water heater work with our RV winterizing kits and check the 12V supply side using accessories from our RV electronics collection.
