What is a ducted ceiling assembly and when do I need one?

A ducted ceiling assembly is the interior portion of your RV rooftop air conditioner that connects the unit to your coach's overhead ductwork, distributing cooled air through ceiling vents in multiple rooms instead of dumping it from a single grille. You need a ducted ceiling assembly if your RV has supply vents running through the ceiling and your existing unit pulls return air through a central filter grille. If your AC blows directly into the living area from one opening above the unit, you have a non-ducted setup and should look at our non-ducted ceiling assembly options instead.

How do I confirm the correct ceiling assembly for my rooftop AC?

Match the ceiling assembly to the rooftop unit's brand, model, and series, not just the BTU rating. Pull your rooftop unit's data plate (Coleman, Dometic, Furrion, etc.) and record the full model number before ordering. Ceiling assemblies are brand-specific and series-specific: a Coleman Mach assembly will not mount to a Dometic Penguin, and a Power Saver HP assembly is different from a Legacy assembly. If you have a Coleman Power Saver HP unit, see the Power Saver HP ducted ceiling assemblies; for older Coleman Mach systems, check the Coleman Legacy ducted ceiling assemblies.

Does the ceiling assembly include a thermostat?

It depends on the configuration. Some ducted ceiling assemblies ship with an integrated control board and require a separate wall thermostat (sold separately), while others include a pre-installed thermostat in the grille. Check the product description and listed thermostat compatibility before ordering, especially if you are replacing a unit with a wall-mounted Coleman-Mach or Dometic CCC2 control system. Wiring is not interchangeable between control families.

Can I install a ducted ceiling assembly myself?

Yes, most DIY-inclined RV owners can complete the install with basic hand tools, a helper on the roof, and roughly two to three hours. The job involves disconnecting 120V power at the breaker, removing the old assembly, transferring or replacing the roof gasket, seating the new assembly against the ductwork opening, and torquing the four corner bolts evenly to compress the gasket without distorting the housing. Verify your ductwork opening dimensions match the new assembly before you start. If you need help confirming fitment, text or call our team at 817-984-1852.
