A 50-amp surge protector needs a 50-amp shore power connection to function as designed. If you frequently stay at parks with 30-amp service, pair the bundle with a dogbone adapter from our RV plug adapters collection so you can step down without losing surge protection on 50-amp sites.

How many joules of surge protection do I need for a 50-amp RV?

Look for at least 2,100 to 4,200 joules of surge suppression on a 50-amp unit, along with open ground, open neutral, reverse polarity, and high/low voltage detection. Can I leave the surge protector plugged in during a storm?
